Expansion Element PXV
EGELHOF has developed the expansion element PXV for the R744 refrigeration circuit and it is especially suitable for sub- and middle class vehicles. It is operated according to the active principle of a variable orifice and thus guarantees depending on the active pressure difference (“delta P”) between high and low pressure, the mass flow that is required for an excellent refrigeration capacity. The optimum valve geometry is not only suitable during part load operation but also meets highest requirements of process dynamics during full load conditions.

The PXV fulfills the following core functions:

  • Robust proportional transmission during all load conditions
  • COP optimized operating mode within supercritical range
  • Considerable refrigeration capacity with high ambient temperatures, good dynamics during start conditions (“Cool-down“) by boost function
  • Integrated pop open function (check valve function with AC OFF)
  • Characteristic is adapted to system’s capacity and performance as per customer requirements
  • Compact design, low weight
  • Installation in the refrigerant line or in separate housing
  • Integrated dirt filter
  • Connection method as per customer specification

System Conditions:

Optimized definition of internal circuit volume and of volume ratio between high and low pressure side
Optimized adapted system charge

Due to its shape and weight, the part can be perfectly installed in the refrigeration line ("in line")

Characteristics of the Expansion Valve PXV:

  • For compact and middle-class vehicles
  • Variable orifice
  • P.D. controlled
  • Opening pressure Δp (inlet - outlet) : as per customer specification
  • COP enhancement by optimized characteristic
  • Characteristic is adapted to systems capacity and performance
  • Installation in refrigerant line or in separate housing possible
  • Compact design, low weight
  • Connection method as per customer specification

Testing, Tests, Simulation
A number of company owned test facilities support EGELHOF customers during:

  • System development
  • Selection of appropriate TXV types and their validation
  • Simulation of faults and corrective actions
  • Analyses of weak points within refrigeration circuits
  • Consideration of heat exchangers (e.g. oil transport, air diffusion)
